Fabric of Life

We are very excited in our house today because the kids got the results from last Sunday's audition for the Tournament of Roses Honor Band. My daughter Tyler got in playing clarinet. This will be her third year in the honor band and the last year she can be in it since it is only open to Pasadena City College band members and high school kids who make it in by audition and she'll be away at college somewhere at this time next year.

The really big news is for my son. He marched in the band last year playing trumpet. This year he audition well enough to be asked to be a part of the Herald Trumpets. This is a huge honor for him! The Herald Trumpets are the ones who march in front of the Rose Queen's float in the parade on New Years Day playing those long trumpets! He'll be one of 7 Herald Trumpets. 60 kids tried out. He hasn't quit smiling since he opened the envelope last night! I am thrilled to death for him! So when you watch the parade on New Years Day....you'll sorta know one of those kids playing in front of the Queens float!

Now on to why you stopped by...

My card today is one I made over the weekend. I am not a "vintagy girl" but I just had to have this last stamp set that was released in the Rummage Bin line. I just love how all the images and sentiments work so well together!

Last Chance...wil it be you?

The final days of the five week CHF Summer Stamp Star Challenge are winding down!

This weeks challenge was to make projects using a "One Sheet Wonder". Most of you probably have tried this at one time or another. You start by creating a "masterboard" or "patterned paper" using what ever stamps you choose. Then cut that piece of paper apart and use it to create your projects!

This is my patterned paper that I created using the Sweet Bee set from the Rummage Bin.

I used it to create 8 cards (2 of each of these designs:

You have till Midnight on Sunday night to upload your OSW project to the gallery. This weeks winner will win $50 worth of CHF stamps.

Thanks for your Service

I flew back from Mississippi today. Left Jackson at 6 AM which is 4 AM in my California world! I had a three hour layover in Dallas but all in all it was a pretty good travel day.

I flew American Airlines and I thought it was pretty cool when they were boarding the plane in Dallas that they asked the service men in uniform to board with first class. There was a 20 something soldier in uniform that I watched board. He sat a few rows in front of me. I saw a few people stop and tell him, "thank you for your service" as they walked by. I thought that was pretty cool too.

When we were deplaning in Burbank I was a few people behind him. I watched him enter the terminal and he was immediately embraced by three people in a huge group hug. As I walked by I saw his Mom, sister, and dad (in uniform too). They were all hugging and had tears running down their faces...even the two soldiers....wasn't long before I too had tears running down my face.

I know we all get busy in our day to day lives, working, playing, stamping...we forget...today I remembered. There are young men and women out there risking their lives for our freedom. There are families everywhere wondering if their sons, daughters, husbands, and wives will be returning home. Today, I remembered.

So...when I got home I took out this lovely set, We Remember, by CHF and inked it for the first time. I made 12 of this card which I will get to one of the many organizations who send cards to the soldiers. Today I remembered....take a minute to remember too....

Layout Challenge #6

Today's layout challenge was a fun one. I like it because it's made for lots of pictures and I had a bunch from Tyler's 16th birthday party last week! Here is the page I made for the layout challenge:
It got a little busy but I think it's still fun. The title was made with Tim Holtz grungeboard letters which were painted with Broken China Distress Crackle Paint. I put a little of the same paint on the 7 gypsie's tag too.
I still had quite a few pictures that Tyler wanted scrapped so I decided to make a double page layout. I didn't have anymore of this designer paper so I made my own that worked out really well.
Only Lesley and Julia are playing along today but check out there pages. They are my layout idols so I'm sure they came up with something terrific!
Here's my supply list for these pages:
Stamps:-The Art of Framing (The Rummage Bin)-Beautiful (The Rummage Bin)-Bold Curls (Kim Hughes)-Vintage Ledger ScrapblocksPaper:-Left DP is Around the block.-I started with white paper and created the right page to match the Around the block paper because I only had one piece.-Butter Cream by Prism PaperInk:-Adirondack Pink Sherbet, Pitch Black by Ranger-Broken china, Fired Brick, & Mustard Seed Distress Crackle Paint by RangerAccessories:-Tim Holtz Grungeboard-Prima Flowers-Makin Memories Brads-7 gypsies tag

Layout Challenge #2

In case you missed it, some of the Cornish Heritage Farms design team members are doing bi-weekly layout challenges. I am loving these because it is getting me back into scrapbooking which, if you follow my blog, you know I have totally dropped the ball on lately!

This week layout focuses on one main image. I love this picture of my hubby and his dad. They went through the typical issues as Jeff was growing up but now they are best buds. I love being around the two of them because they have so much fun teasing each other. This picture was taken on a family camping trip in Sedona, AZ and just tells the story of Jeff and his dad's friendship!

Challenge Chicks #7-Designer Styler

Today is Monday so it must be challenge chick time!

Today's challenge was presented by our very own Ali Miles. She challenged the CHF design team to pick ONE member of the design team and case either 1) something from their gallery OR 2) their style. For this challenge I chose the person who's style is probably the furthest away from mine...Mona Lisa Strahl! Mona has a very clean style and often makes one layer cards which I struggle to make myself. When Mona posted this card in the CHF gallery, it went right into my favorites. Here's her card:

I cased it pretty closely. Here's the one I made:

CHF Stamps:
-Houndstooth Backgrounder
-Beautiful (The Rummage Bin)
-Birthday Centers (Mona Lisa's Moments)

Paper:
-Georgia Pacific white cardstock

Ink:
-Shell Pink & Pitch Black Adirondack ink by Ranger

Accessories:
-Black Rick Rack by Ribbon Trios from Michael's

Check out what all the other girls did. Start with Lisa and hop through the rest of the gangs blogs! Julie, Sherrie, Lori, Kim, Dawn, Julia, Lesley, Val, Michele and Alli.

Layout Sketch Challenge #1

I am very excited about today's CHF challenge. We just recently added a "Scrap Chat" area to the forum area of the web site. To encourage participation in our scrap chat forum, we're going to start off with hosting bi-weekly scrap layout challenges.

There are so many great ways to use Cornish Heritage Farms stamps in your layouts. I started in paper crafting as a scrap booker but have gotten away from it over the years as I got more into stamping. In the back of my mind I knew you could
combine stamping with scrap booking but just hadn't fully embraced the concept. So....now I am having a blast challenging myself to start scrapping again...WITH my stamps.

Here are two layouts that I made using this sketch. What do you think?

CHF Stamps:
-Flowers from Beautiful (The Rummage Bin)
-Sentiments from For the Boys (The Rummage Bin)
-Paisley Backgrounder

Paper:
-Makin Memories and Provo Craft

Ink:
-Adirondack Pitch Black & Lettuce dye ink by Ranger Inc.

Accessories:
-Twill Ribbon by Ofray

Tools:
-Cricut Alphalicious (for Title) and George and Basic Shapes (for flower)
-Nestabilities by Spellbinder
-Microsoft Office Word for the journalling

CHF Stamps:
-Supah Star (Kim Hughes)
-For the Men (The Rummage Bin)
-Grid Paper Backgrounder
-Montana Cracked Earth Backgrounder

Paper:
-Makin' Memories white cardstock from Michael's
-Prismatic Brown Suede Medium

Ink:
-Antique Linen, Peeled Paint, and Walnut stain Distress ink by Ranger Inc.

-Antique Linen Distress Crackle Paint
-1" Grossgrain Ribbon by Ofray

Tools:
-Nestabilities by Spellbinder

National Scrapbooking Day is this Saturday, May 3rd. Check out this post in "Scrap Chat" for information on some of the fun things we're doing to celebrate over at Cornish Heritage Farms!

Prom Night

No post yesterday because I spent most of the day helping my daughter get ready for prom. She is only a Sophomore but her boyfriend is a Senior. This is the first real dance she's been too and she was very excited.

They looked perfect together! All she told Chris was that her dress was red. His tux was a perfect match. This is the first page from the "pick up pics" that I have scrapped.

I took pictures all day yesterday as we got ready so I'll do a page on the events leading up to this too.

It's been a while since I have done a layout but with The Rummage Bin Stamps it's so fun to do!
